AIR Project Statement
Weather You Remember is an online collection of “weather reports” delivered by senior citizens, as they recall and comment on weather for the location they most identify as “home”. Relying only on personal experience and memory, participants in this project are asked to consider the cultural, climate, economic and other changes they have witnessed as indicators of present and future “weather” conditions. Using the same “bluescreen” technique employed in standard televised weather reporting, participants are video taped in front of hand drawn animated maps that reference the experiences and points of interest they are discussing. As weather reports are generated they will be inserted to an interactive map, allowing viewers to select them by location.
Another component of this piece will be a separate online network accessible to participants who have submitted weather reports. Personal web pages (similar to MySpace, or Facebook) will be available for participants to use in the hope of connecting these people to each other and of facilitating conversation and community.
