Kelly Sherman, AIR 2006
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Kelly Sherman will be investigating seating plan arrangements in the context of weddings: how complex family relationships are confronted and mediated via event seating arrangements. She is interested in how an issue so practical in nature can both produce and assuage emotional tension and conflict. She is additionally drawn to the spatial, physical characteristics of this topic and the possibilities for an analysis that is both theoretical and visual.
Kelly Sherman received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 2002. A finalist for the Stephen D. Paine Scholarship and recent Artist-in-Residence at the Vermont Studio Center, she was placed on the annual Boston Magazine "Hot List" for notable Bostonians in the arts and has exhibited recently at Real Art Ways and the Barbara Krakow Gallery. She is a finalist for the pending Artist Prize, given by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. The end result of her work with the Berwick will be part of her exhibition at the ICA's new building when it opens in December 2006.
