New AIR Artist - Maura Jasper 7/07 - 9/07

On Tuesday, July 17th, it will be our pleasure to introduce you to the second AIR Artist of 2007:

Please join us to meet Maura, learn about her past in Punk Rock Aerobics, and discuss her new project, Weather You Remember, a collection of video "weather reports" delivered by senior citizens as they recall and comment on weather for the location they most identify as "home". Relying only on personal experience and memory, participants in this project are asked to consider the cultural, climate, economic and other changes they have witnessed as indicators of present and future conditions.

Upgrade! Boston
is a monthly gathering of artists, curators and the public that fosters dialogue and creates opportunities for collaboration within the new media community. Each meeting consists of one or two hour-long presentations interspersed with questions and comments from the audience. The events are informal and free. Founded by Turbulence.org in January 2005, Upgrade! Boston continues to grow as a local node within the global Upgrade! International (UI) network. It participated in the first UI gathering at Eyebeam, NYC in September 2005, and contributed artwork, a workshop, and two talks to the 2006 gathering in Oklahoma City.


2007 AIR Artist Maura Jasper Maura Jasper is a conceptual multimedia artist whose work investigates how pop cultures and histories shape and inform identity. She has exhibited and screened work widely in the United States and overseas, including at Artist's Space, Threadwaxing Space, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and the Centre for Contemporary Images in Geneva. She is probably best known for her work as a co-founder of Punk Rock Aerobics, the DIY workout. Currently she is a graduate student at Massachusetts College of Art's Studio for Interrelated Media.
